You may know potatoes as a good source of potassium, but did you know they can be used to power a low voltage clock? This kit contains a basic digital clock and the instructions and everything you need (except the spuds) to run it.
Just push the zinc and copper electrodes into the potatoes causing an oxidation/reduction reaction that is converted to low voltage. Ages 8 and up. Small parts choking hazard. Not for children under 3 years.
How It Works...
The copper and zinc electrodes plus the potatoes make a simple battery that creates electricity to operate the clock. Each potato works as a device called an electrochemical cell. It converts the chemical energy stored in the electrodes into electrical energy. Two potatoes are needed to make electricity strong enough to run the clock.
