Our loop consists of a three inch long, 25 gauge nichrome wire with a loop at one end and mounted on an eight inch long aluminum handle.
Flame sterilization is a very simple method of killing microorganisms on an inoculating loop. Hold the loop inside an alcohol burner or bunsen burner flame for a few seconds to bring it to redness and then remove for 15-30 seconds to cool. When cooled, the loop is ready for culture inoculations.
